The Rising Beyond Podcast
If you're trying to protect your children while navigating an abusive ex, this podcast is for you. Because leaving the relationship didn't end the abuse, and no one prepared you for what came next.
The Rising Beyond Podcast is for protective mothers navigating the overwhelming reality of sharing children with someone who continues patterns of manipulation, coercive control, or emotional abuse after separation. Join Sybil Cummin, licensed professional counselor, who has spent the last decade helping survivors and their children navigate this incredibly difficult chapter. Every week, we share trauma-informed education, nervous system insights, protective parenting strategies, and honest conversations about family court, post-separation abuse, and healing, so you can feel more confident, more grounded, and better equipped to protect both your children and yourself.
Whether you're in the middle of family court, struggling with parenting alongside someone who continues patterns of control, or simply trying to become the parent you want to be after everything you've survived, you'll find validation, practical guidance, and hope here.

Ep 143: Silenced No More: How Loraine Marshall Beat a Defamation Case and Found Her Voice
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
How often have you felt voice-less and silenced as a survivor of coercive control and domestic violence?
Survivors are voice-less when living in the relationship with their abuser. They also often do not get a chance to speak their truth in family court or within any other larger systems either.
And so when you are in a place where you want to be heard and decide to make things more public, it is possible that your abuser will do anything and everything to silence you again. This is what happened to my guest, Lorraine Marshall. She received defamation charges against her after writing her book titled, “Post Separation Abuse. Betrayal and Abandonment. What Type Of Man?”
So, if you have ever been in a place where you want to be an advocate for other survivors by writing a book or having a podcast or Youtube channel you will need to learn how to protect yourself just in case. Lorraine Marshall shares her story of abuse, how she was silenced, and how she was able to beat the charges filed against her.
Loraine Marshall is a self-published author and survivor of hidden emotional abuse that was revealed to her post-separation. If money was not a concern, I would buy a home and run a retreat to help women in recovery from trauma after any of the three Ds in relationship endings.
